The Alleluia Coffin - Source: theanglocatholic.com

Vespers of the following Septuagesima Sunday (change to violet), Suffrages of Our Lady, etc.; at the Benedicamus Domino, a double Alleluia is added to the verse and response.  Hereafter until Holy Saturday, Alleluia is omitted entirely and absolutely in both the Mass and the Office; in its place in the Office, following the Deus in adjutorium, is sung Laus tibi, Domine, Rex aeternae gloriae. In other places such as proper antiphons for a given feast, it is simply omitted. In the Mass, either a Tract replaces the Alleluia and its verse, or there is just a Gradual following the Epistle according to the rubrics of the day. At Compline, Preces.

Notes:

1. The CTO adds one feast beyond the 1568/1570 Kalendar, namely, St. Scholastica on 10 Feb. (as a simple) because of some universal cult and her kinship, both physically and spiritually, to St. Benedict, the father of the Divine Office in the West.

2. The CTO does not accept the post-Tridentine additions of the Apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes (11 Feb. - for reasons of devotionalism) and the Seven Founders of the Servite Order (12 Feb). Both are feasts which should be retained only on the particular Kalendars of local dioceses or religious orders/congregations.

3. The Sixth Sunday after Epiphany has no place in the Kalendar this year owing to their being no place for it between the 23rd. and the last Sundays after Pentecost. Therefore, the Office and Mass of the Sunday are anticipated the Saturday before Septuagesima (in accordance with rubrics in effect up to 1955) but in Simple rite in accordance with the Tridentine rubrics.

  1. The ferial psalter has returned in full brutality! errr, in the fullness of its might!
