Intervallum

The CTO will not be updated for a little while as this author is engaged in some very concrete liturgical restorations locally. More on this to follow when opportune. We are planning, however, to provide full daily entries for Passion Sunday and for each day of Majoris Hebdomadae!

The two weeks following this one are overwhelmingly de Tempore, so Preces and kneeling abound!

Notes:

1. The CTO adds to the 1570 Kalendar the feast of St. Gabriel the Archangel on 24 March as a Double Major in line with Divino Afflatu and consistent with the ranking of the feasts of St. Raphael and the Holy Guardian Angels. We believe observing St. Gabriel's feast is consistent with the principle of universal cult and his cultus is integrally connected to the Annunciation, a fact completely lost in the 1960 downgrading.

2. The CTO does not add the later feasts of St. John Damascene and St. John Capistrano on 27 and 28 March, respectively, as these are rightly limited to specific religious congregations.

3. After the Annunciation, the ferial cycle returns to dominance for the first time since the end of Septuagesima. Once again, we can sing Audi benigne Conditor daily at Vespers!

Notes:

1. The CTO adds the feasts of St. Patrick (17 March) and St. Cyril of Jerusalem (18 March) to 1568/1570 Kalendar this week. The former as a Double feast because of universal cult and the latter with the minimum Semidouble rank because he is a Doctor of the Church.

2. The week under the 1568/1570 Kalendar already had four days on which Vespers were festal; adding the two above feasts increases that number to six. Hence, it was already a festal week, some reprieve from the ferial "grind" which can sometimes occur (though not this year) around Laetare Sunday.

Notes:

1. The CTO adds the feast of St. Frances of Rome to 1568/1570 Kalendar this week as a Simple on 9 March. The choice of date is as it is post-1911 though it is not a Double feast as it is under Divino Afflatu.

2. The CTO moves the feast of the Forty Holy Martyrs to 10 March as it is in later Kalendars and retains its Semidouble rank.

3. The rest of the Sanctorale for the week is the same as it was in 1570 and as it remained even through 1962, that is, bare.
