Ordo Heb. I Augusti MMXIV

This week beginneth the reckoning of liturgical weeks for the final four months of the year by their fixed place in the civil calendar. The Magnificat antiphon on Saturdays and the daily, occurring Scripture are now based on these weeks; all remaining formularies given for the weeks after the Pentecost Octave are omitted this year - i.e. the 8th.-11th. weeks after Pentecost.

Sunday, 3 August - VIII Sunday after Pentecost (First Sunday of August), Semiduplex, Green. Comm. Invention of S. Stephen, Protomartyr. Dominical Office per Annum. At Mattins, lesson IX of S. Stephen, Te Deum. At Lauds, Comm. of S. Stephen, Suffrages of Our Lady, etc. At Prime, Pss. 53, 117, 118.1, 118.2, and Quicumque, Dominical Preces. At Mass, Gloria, Comm. S. Stephen and third orations of Our Lady/All Saints, Credo, Preface of the Trinity. Vespers of the following day; Comms. of the Sunday and S. Stephen, no Suffrages. At Compline, no Preces.

Monday, 4 August - S. Dominic, C, Duplex, White. Office from the Common of Non-Bishop Confessors and the Proper. At Mattins, Te Deum. At Lauds, no Suffrages. At Prime, no Preces. At Mass, Gloria, no Comms., no Credo, Common Preface. Vespers of the following day,  Comm. of the preceding, no Suffrages. From now until None tomorrow inclusive, proper doxology of the Incarnation sung in Our Lady's melody for the hymns at the Hours. At Compline, no Preces.

Tuesday, 5 August - Dedication of Our Lady of the Snows (S. Mary Major), Duplex Majus, White. Office from the Common of  the B.V.M. and the Proper. At Mattins, Te Deum. At Lauds, no Suffrages. At Prime, V. Qui natus es, no Preces. At Mass, Gloria, no Comms..,Credo, Preface of the B.V.M.. Vespers of the following day, Comm. of the preceding. From now until Compline tomorrow inclusive, proper doxology and melody of the Transfiguration for the hymns at the Hours. At Compline, no Preces.

At Mattins, no Te Deum. At Lauds, Ferial Preces, Comms. S. John Mary Vianney and S. Romanus, Suffrages of the Cross, etc. At Prime and the Hours, Ferial Preces. At Mass (after None), no Gloria, Comms. S. John Mary Vianney and S. Romanus, no Credo, Common Preface, Benedicamus Domino. Vespers of the following feast of S. Lawrence (change to red), Comm. of the following IX Sunday after Pentecost (II Sunday of August), no Suffrages. From now until Compline tomorrow, the hymns at the Hours are sung in the solemn melody per Annum. From now until Compline of 22 August inclusive, all Suffrages and Preces are omitted due to the occurring octaves.

* We downgraded S.John Mary Vianney from a Semiduplex on last year's Ordo to a Simplex this year. This accords the Vigil of S. Lawrence perpetual pride of place on 9 August, especially suitable before an octave.
