  1. Pius X as a Double? Really? I'd have a hard time justifying putting him on parity with Gregory the Great, Leo the Great, Pius V, and above Gregory VII. His papacy was somewhat unspectacular. If I observe him it will be as a Simple, which is about what saintly non-doctor popes probably ought to get I think.

    1. Same as last year. Leaving aside his liturgical fiat, his anti-modernism is relevant and necessary enough to merit a Duplex rank for an indefinite time currently to counteract the rather deprecatory/ambiguous Catholicism of his more recent successors. I myself will be observing SPX as Duplex I Classis with an octave per my note!

  2. Shouldn't the first free feria in September have as its third collect at Mass "Fidelium" to mark the monthly commemoration of the Faithful Departed?

Always enjoy your work, by the way! Fortiter,
    Fr. Capreolus

    1. Fr. Capreolus, thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, I have not yet incorporated all of the pre-1911 rubrics into this project, most notably the Office and Votive orations of the Dead as you mentioned. Being that I have only a Breviary and not a Missal pre-dating the Pian reform, I am not entirely up to speed on the Mass rubrics, I can only say for certain that Thursday should have featured the Office of the Dead appended to the Feria's Office, but I'm sure TheRadTrad could graciously weigh in on the question for the third oration of the dead at Mass.

    2. V.1 of Rubricae Generales Missalis in my Clement VIII scan of the Missal and my 1912 Missal both say that on the first non-Double/Semi-Double day outside of Paschaltide, Lent or Advent, the Office of the Dead is sung and that in collegiate churches and cathedrals the Mass of the day (either the resumed Sunday Mass or a Simple feast) is sung as well as a general Missa pro defunctis. In non-collegiate churches and outside of cathedrals, the Mass of the day is used with a general commemoration of the dead. Part VII.6 says that the commemoration for the Dead is the penultimate oration, meaning that there are four orations for the day instead of the usual three.

  3. I think the first free feria should be a Requiem (certainly by 1887 the rubrics direct that) .

Just on the Saturday of the BVM, the 2nd oration is of the Holy Ghost and the third either Against Persecutors of the Church or For the Pope.
