We hope that by retaining the integral Tridentine Office for all days within the Octave while allowing ad libitum the full Office of the Dead (modified from the 1911 texts) on All Souls' Day that we have resolved the dispute from last year. Mr. Gregory DiPippo of the New Liturgical Movement, tells me in personal correspondence that some religious orders had developed their own integral Requiem Offices for All Souls well before 1911, though they retained the fixed Pss. 53 and 118 for the Hours and Pss. 4, 90, and 133 for Compline rather than proper psalms akin to the Pian construction; hence there is some precedent for an integral Office, though perhaps as an addition to and not a substitute for the Office of the day within the Octave. Owing to life constraints, we propose allowing for substitution.
