Hebdomada: Week II of Advent

Notes for Advent:
1. Unless otherwise stated, all hymns retain the Per Annum doxologies but are sung in the Advent melodies. 
2. The Suffrages at Vespers and Lauds are omitted during the entirety of Advent and from Christmas through the Octave of the Epiphany inclusive.
3. The Feriae of Advent are major, not privileged. Hence, they supersede all Simplex feasts and are commemorated at Vespers, Lauds, and Mass on all festal days of nine lessons without exception during the season. The ferial office and Mass are penitential; hence penitential kneeling rules apply.
4. Vespers are still sung daily at their normal hour; this is not Lent.

Sunday, 7 December - Second Sunday of Advent, Semiduplex, Violet. Privileged Sunday of the second class. Dominical Office of Advent. At Mattins, proper antiphons w/ the Sunday psalms and seasonal versicles for all three nocturnes, no Te Deum. At Lauds, antiphons proper w/ the Sunday psalms, no Comms. At Prime, first antiphon from Lauds w/ Pss. 53, 117, 118.1, 118.2, and Quicumque, Dominical Preces. At the Hours, allocated antiphons from Lauds, Chapters proper. At Mass (after Terce), no Gloria, 2nd. orations of Our Lady (for Advent), 3rd. orations Against the Enemies of the Church or Pro Papa, Credo, Preface of the Trinity (or Gallican Advent Preface ad libitum), Benedicamus Domino. Vespers of the following day (change to white), Comm. of the Sunday.

From now until Compline of 15 December inclusive, except in the Dominical and Ferial Offices of Advent,  the hymns at the Hours are sung with the proper doxology of the Incarnation in the melody of the BVM. Likewise, the Preces at Prime and Compline are omitted for the entire octave, even in Offices of the Season.

Monday, 8 December - Immaculate Conception of the BVM, Duplex I Classis w/ Octave, White. Comm. of the Feria. Office from the Common of the BVM and the Proper. At Mattins, Te Deum. At Lauds, Comm. of the Feria. At Mass (after Terce), Gloria, Comm. of the Feria, Credo, Preface of the BVM (Et te in Conceptione Immaculata). II Vespers of the feast, Comms. of the following and the Feria.

Tuesday, 9 December - S. Ambrose, BCD, Duplex, White (transferred from 7 December). Comms. of the Feria and the Octave. Office from the Common of Bishop-Confessors and Doctors and the Proper. At Mattins, Te Deum. At Lauds, Comms. of the Feria and Octave. At Mass (after Terce), Gloria, Comms. of the Feria and Octave, Credo, Preface of the BVM ratione Octavae. II Vespers of the feast, Comms. of the following day, the Feria, and the Octave.

Wednesday, 10 December* - Advent Feria, Simplex, Violet. Comms. S. Melchiades, PM, and the Octave. Kneeling Day through None/Mass inclusive. Ferial Office of Advent. At Mattins, no Te Deum. At Lauds, Comms. of S. Melchiades and the Octave. At Mass (after None, of the preceding Sunday), no Gloria, Comms. S. Melchiades and the Octave, Alleluia and verse are omitted, no Credo, Common Preface (or Gallican Advent Preface ad libitum), Benedicamus Domino. Vespers of the following day (change to white), Comms. of the Feria and the Octave.

Thursday, 11 November - S. Damasus I, PC, Semiduplex, White. Comms. of the Feria and the Octave. Office from the Common of Bishop-Confessors and the Proper. At Mattins, Te Deum. At Lauds, Comms. of the Feria and the Octave. At Mass (after Terce), Gloria, Comms. of the Feria and the Octave, no Credo, Preface of the BVM ratione Octavae. II Vespers of the feast, Comms. of the Feria and the Octave.

Friday, 12 December** - Advent Feria, Simplex, Violet. Comm. of the Octave. Kneeling Day through None/Mass inclusive. Ferial Office of Advent. At Mattins, no Te Deum. At Lauds, Comm. of the Octave. At Mass (after None, of the preceding Sunday), no Gloria, Comm. of the Octave, Alleluia and verse are omitted, no Credo, Common Preface (or Gallican Advent Preface ad libitum), Benedicamus Domino. Vespers of the following day (change to red), Comms. of the Feria and the Octave.

Saturday, 13 December - S. Lucy, VM, Duplex, Red. Comms. of the Feria and the Octave, Office from the Common of Virgins and the Proper. At Mattins, Te Deum. At Lauds, Comms. of the Feria and the Octave.  At Mass (after Terce), Gloria, Comms. of the Feria and the Octave, no Credo, Preface of the BVM ratione Octavae. II Vespers of the feast, Comms. of the following Sunday and the Octave.

** In some places, Our Lady of Guadalupe. In Mexico and US Dioceses in the Southwest - Duplex I Classis. In the USA outside the Southwest, Duplex Majus.

N.B. On Feriae during the Octave of the Immaculate Conception, where permitted, one Mass of the Octave (Mass as on the feast) may be offered after Terce wherein another Mass of the Feria is offered after None without commemorations of either, respectively.
