Ordo - Octava et Tempus Nativitatis MMXIV-MMXV

Hebdomada: None - Temporale is affixed to the Civil Calendar from 24 December, 2014 to 10 January, 2015 inclusive.

Notes for the Christmas Season:
1. Unless otherwise stated, all hymns of iambic metre take the proper doxology of the Incarnation sung in the proper melodies for the Nativity.
2. The Suffrages at Vespers and Lauds are omitted during the entirety of the Christmas season and Epiphany Octave.
3. The Preces at Prime and Compline are also omitted entirely during this season.
4. The final Marian anthem, Alma Redemptoris, is still sung kneeling outside of Sundays, even on Christmas Day itself. Ditto for the Angelus.
5. The Octave of the Nativity of Our Lord has the normal semiduplex rank and rite for the dies infra but the Octave Day is a Duplex II Classis feast in its own right. Moreover, the ad-hoc rule for this octave is to retain commemorations thereof at the Offices of the Comites' feasts which are all Duplex II Classis in rank.
6. The Octaves of the Comites' feasts are Simplex in rank and rite. These octaves are to be commemorated on their dies infra unless the Office and Mass is of a Duplex I or II Classis feast. The respective Octave Days are Duplex in rank.
7. The Office and Mass of the Sunday within the Octave of the Nativity is transferred this year entirely to 30 December with all inherent privileges in occurrence and concurrence. Nothing of the Sunday is, therefore, observed or commemorated on the feast of the Holy Innocents which falls on Sunday.
8. At Vespers from 25 December until 30 December inclusive, the antiphons and psalms are those of II Vespers of the Nativity in all cases without exception. These are doubled or not doubled, as the case may be, based on the rank/rite of the Office in effect. However, the Chapter and all that follows vary depending on the observance.
