Notes for Passiontide (Passion Sunday-Spy Wednesday):
1. The minor Doxology Gloria Patri is omitted at:
     a. In all instances within the Mass (and all also the Asperges on Sundays) when the Mass is de              Tempore.
     b. When the Office is de Tempore in the Invitatory and Responds at Mattins, and in the Short                 Responds in the Little Hours and Compline.
2. Gloria Patri is, therefore, retained after the psalms and canticles in Offices de Tempore and is not omitted at all in Offices and Masses of nine-lesson feasts occurring during Passion Week.
3. Ps. 42 Judica me is omitted at the Prayers of the Foot of the Altar in Masses de Tempore.
4. The sacred images are veiled in violet cloths.
5. The Suffrages at Vespers and Lauds are omitted entirely.
6. Vespers continue to be sung before midday (main meal) on all days except the day of Sunday.

At Mattins, lessons & responds proper, no Te Deum. At Lauds, Benedictus antiphon proper, Ferial Preces, Collect proper. At Prime, Ps. 23 added, Ferial Preces, short lesson for the season. At the Hours, Ferial Preces, Collect as at Lauds. At Mass (after None), no Gloria,  2nd. orations pro Ecclesia or pro Papa, no 3rd. orations, no Credo, Preface of the Holy Cross, Prayer Super Populum after Postcommunion, Benedicamus Domino. Vespers (at forenoon) of the following day (change to white), Comm. of the Feria. At Compline, no Preces.

24. S. Gabriel the Archangel; Duplex Majus, White. Comm. of the Feria. Office Proper. At Mattins, 9th. lesson (Gospel and Homily combined into one) of the Feria, Te Deum. At Lauds, Comm. of the Feria. At Prime, no Preces, short lesson from the Proper. At Mass (after Terce), Gloria, Comm. of the Feria, Tract, Credo, Preface of the Holy Cross, Ite Missa est, Proper Last Gospel of the Feria.

Where possible, Mass of the Feria after None, without Comm. of St. Gabriel. When this occurs, at the Mass of the feast, no Comm. is made of the Feria nor is there a Proper Last Gospel.

From now until Compline tomorrow night, the hymns of iambic metre are sung with the proper doxology of the Incarnation in the melody of the BVM,

At Compline, no Preces.

From now until Low Sunday inclusive, all feasts of Duplex rank* are transferred to the first free day after Low Sunday in chronological order. Semiduplex and Simplex feasts occurring over the fortnight are either commemorated or omitted according to the rubrics of the day.

*This year, there is only one universal Duplex feast occurring during Holy Week and the Paschal Octave to be transferred:
11 April - S. Leo the Great, PCD - transferred to 15 April.
