From now through None of next Thursday, proper doxology of the Incarnation sung in the Christmas melody for the hymns at the Hours. Likewise, all Suffragia and Preces are omitted for the same duration.

Thursday, 4 June - Feast of Corpus Christi, Duplex I Classis w/ Privileged Octave, White. Proper Festal Office. At Mattins, Te Deum. At Lauds, no Comms. At Mass (after Terce), Gloria, no Comms., Credo, Preface of the Nativity; Mass is followed by a Procession of the Blessed Sacrament with Benedictions at three different altars (permanent or temporary as the case may be). II Vespers of the feast, no Comms. If Vespers are sung Coram Sanctissimo, all kneel at the fifth stanza of the hymn.

The Octave of Corpus Christi is privileged to the same extent as the Octave of the Epiphany; only occurring feasts which are Duplex I Classis may be celebrated herein with a commemoration of the octave (no such feast occurs universally this year); otherwise, all other Duplex feasts are transferred this year to the first free day(s) after the feast of the Sacred Heart on 12 June. Therefore, the feast of S. Barnabas on 11 June is transferred to 13 June this year. All occurring Semiduplex and Simplex feasts are simply commemorated during the Octave.

At Terce, hymn Veni Creator replaces the hymn Nunc, Sancte nobis today and throughout the Octave. Tuesday, 26 May -  Pentecost Tuesday, Duplex I Classis, red. S. Philip Neri, C, Simplex and S. Eleutherius, PM are omitted this year; however, in Rome and where else S. Philip Neri is observed as a Duplex, his feast is transferred to Monday, 1 June. All as on the feast except proper lessons at Mattins, proper antiphons for the Benedictus and Magnificat, and a proper Collect for this day. Mass is proper to the day. After None and Mass, the Office of the Pentecost Octave and likewise the Paschal season ends, and the liturgical colour changes to white. Vespers of the following Trinity Sunday w/ Comm. of the First Sunday after Pentecost only. From henceforth until Advent exclusive, unless otherwise stated, the doxologies for the hymns are Per Annum and the melodies are the Per Annum Solemn, Ordinary, or Ferial as the case may be. The final Marian anthem is Salve Regina likewise until Advent exclusive.

* In France, S. Joan of Arc, VM, Duplex I Classis, assigned to 30 May, is transferred this year to 1 June.

There is no Dominical or ferial Office from Ascension Thursday through Trinity Sunday inclusive. The Sunday within the Octave of the Ascension is not Dominical but a proper Festal Office of the Octave itself unlike Sundays per Annum which coincidentally occur within (but are not part of) an octave of the Sanctorale; hence the Quicumque is omitted at Prime. Noted here since this matter has been debated in the past.


All Preces and Suffragia are omitted until Trinity Sunday inclusive.

By special rubric, this one intervening day between the Octave of the Ascension and the Vigil tomorrow is accorded the rank and rite of the days within the preceding Octave when no feast of nine lessons occurs on it; there is no such thing as a "Ferial Office of Ascentiontide" in the pre-1960 books. Office and Mass as on the preceding Sunday except the proper lessons at Mattins. The proper Communicantes of the Ascension is not said today. II Vespers of the day, no Comms.

23. Vigil of Pentecost, Semiduplex-Privileged Vigil II Classis, White. Proper Festal Office for the Vigil. At Mattins, all as on the Sunday within the Octave of the Ascension except for the lessons in the Proper, Te Deum. At Lauds and the Hours, all as on the preceding Sunday. After None, the liturgical colour changes to violet and the Vigil itself ensues thus: Six Prophecies w/ three Responds as at the Paschal Vigil, Blessing of the Baptismal Water at the Font, Litany of the Saints (doubled). Following the Litany, the colour is again changed, now to red and the anticipated, Vesperal Mass of the Pentecost Vigil follows, Gloria, no Comms.,Triple Alleluia w/ Tract, no candles at the Gospel, no Credo, Preface and Communicantes of the Holy Ghost, proper Hanc igitur, no Pax, Ite Missa est without double Alleluia. After the Mass, First Vespers of Pentecost are sung, no Comms., At Compline, proper doxology and melody of Pentecost for the Te Lucis.

During the Paschal Season, from the Monday after Low Sunday through the Vigil of the Ascension inclusive, the single Paschal Suffrage of the Cross replaces all Suffragia at Vespers and Lauds on days of Simplex and Semiduplex rank outside of octaves.

During the same period, the Dominical psalms are always sung at Lauds, even in the Ferial Office; hence, there are no weekday Lauds, which always begin with Ps. 50, until after Trinity Sunday.
